CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said in a statement that the movement of crude oil, cargo and liquefied natural gas through the strategic waterway had increased over the past two weeks.
According to the US military, more than one billion barrels of oil have been transported through the Strait of Hormuz over the past two months, while US forces have provided security to more than 2,000 commercial vessels operating in the area.
Admiral Cooper also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz had been cleared of naval mines. He said the United States was working with regional partners to strengthen maritime security and improve their air defence capabilities.
He added that a new joint drone unit was also being established as part of efforts to enhance security cooperation in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy route, carrying significant volumes of oil and gas between the Gulf and international markets.
