Miranshah: Tribal elders from North Waziristan have pledged full support to the Pakistan Army in its ongoing battle against Indian-sponsored militant elements referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, reaffirming their commitment to lasting peace in the region.

The declaration came during a jirga held in Miranshah on Saturday, attended by tribal elders with the support of the Pakistan Army.

During the meeting, the elders expressed unwavering solidarity with the military’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and endorsed the security forces’ continued efforts to restore peace in the region.

They also paid tribute to the martyrs and lauded the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism.

The jirga participants vowed to cooperate fully with law enforcement and military authorities to eliminate all elements involved in Fitna al-Khawarij and other militant activities.

In a separate jirga held at the Chief Minister’s House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized the importance of tribal consultation in the peace process.

He announced that a 20-member jirga from the merged tribal districts would be formed to devise a comprehensive peace strategy, which would then be submitted to both the provincial government and the military leadership.

Pakistan has faced a troubling resurgence in terror incidents in recent years, especially in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the return of the Taliban to power in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.

According to a report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), terror attacks in January 2025 surged by 42% compared to the previous month, with law enforcement agencies and military personnel being the primary targets.

As regional tensions rise and internal security challenges grow, Saturday’s show of unity between the tribal leadership and the military is being seen as a significant step toward forging stability and defeating extremism in Pakistan’s most vulnerable areas.
