In his message, the president said the day is a reminder of the sacrifices, determination and courage displayed by the nation’s heroes. He paid tribute to the armed forces personnel who sacrificed their lives defending the country.

Zardari said the Pakistan Army foiled the enemy’s plans on every front during the 1965 war, while the martyrs wrote lasting chapters of courage, bravery and patriotism with their sacrifices. He said the national unity and spirit demonstrated on September 6, 1965, remain a symbol of Pakistan’s collective strength.

He described the success in the recent Marka-e-Haq as a continuation of the spirit of patriotism and commitment to freedom associated with Defence Day, saying it reflected the professional capability, determination and courage of the armed forces.

The president said Pakistan has emerged as a responsible and effective pillar for peace and security in the region and continues to contribute to stability and collective security beyond its borders.

He stressed that Pakistan would not compromise on its sovereignty, territorial integrity or national security, adding that lasting peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Zardari said the entire nation continues to stand alongside its armed forces. He added that, alongside a strong defence, economic stability and national unity are fundamental to Pakistan’s strength.

On Defence and Martyrs Day, he called for renewed commitment to protecting the country and building Pakistan into a strong, democratic and prosperous state in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
