Speaking at a rally in Florida, Trump said he had threatened both nuclear-armed countries with trade restrictions and steep tariffs to pressure them into ending the conflict.
He claimed to have helped stop eight wars around the world but said he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize despite his efforts. According to Trump, tariffs played a role in helping resolve five of those conflicts.
Trump said he had sent a clear message to Pakistan and India that continued fighting would result in heavy tariffs and difficulties in trading with the United States. He also claimed the United Nations had played no role in stopping the wars, describing their resolution as a matter of personal pride.
Warns of Possible Further Action Against Iran
Addressing Iran, Trump said the United States could launch another operation against the country but maintained that Washington had the ability to bring a conflict to an end quickly. He framed the key question as whether to end the war or allow Iran to become further weakened.
Trump added that Cuba could become a focus of US attention after the Iran issue. He said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be sent to finalise an agreement.
Oil Through Strait of Hormuz
Commenting on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said oil shipments through the strategic waterway were continuing.
He claimed the United States was obtaining oil through the strait on its own terms and that more oil was being exported through the route than before the conflict began.
Trump in the past has also referred to the Pakistan-India conflict claiming credit for the cessation of fighting. Earlier, he changed the figure of downed fighter jets by Pakistan from four to five to six and now 11.
