WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has confirmed that during the recent war between Pakistan and India, around five fighter jets were shot down.
Speaking at an event at the White House, he said that Pakistan shot down four to five Indian aircraft. He added that the situation during the war was becoming very dangerous and there was a serious risk of a nuclear conflict.
President Trump said the United States helped stop the war and advised both countries to focus on trade instead of fighting.
He also said that the US will become the world leader in cryptocurrency, and claimed that America has made more progress in six months than some countries did in eight years.
The conflict between Pakistan and India had raised global concerns, especially due to both nations being nuclear powers. Several international organizations had called for restraint and peaceful dialogue during the crisis.
Trump’s statement is seen as a rare public confirmation of the scale of the conflict and the role the US played in calming tensions between the two countries.
