Additional $87 Billion Needed for Iran War: Hegseth

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has asked Congress for an additional $87 billion to fund military operations and defence requirements amid the ongoing war with Iran.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told the Senate Appropriations Committee that the Iran campaign has already cost $37.5 billion, including projected expenses through September 30.

Hegseth said the current global security environment requires strengthening, not reducing, US military capabilities.

He warned that failing to approve the requested funding could leave the United States facing serious security challenges.

The funding request was formally presented to the Senate following a classified security briefing, with Pentagon officials stressing the need for additional resources to meet growing global threats.
