Trump Sets Peace Process in Motion After ‘Excellent’ Call with Putin on Ukraine War

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced a breakthrough following a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He described the conversation as “very positive,” stating that Russia and Ukraine will begin immediate negotiations toward a ceasefire—and ultimately, an end to the war.

Trump emphasized that only Russia and Ukraine can define the terms of peace, as they understand the conflict’s nuances better than anyone else.

He underscored that the tone and spirit of the call were “excellent,” adding, “If it wasn’t, I’d say so now.”

Trump Highlights Economic Opportunities for Post-War Recovery

According to President Trump, Russia is eager to pursue large-scale trade with the United States once the war ends.

He stressed that the economic potential for Russia is “UNLIMITED,” citing opportunities to create “massive amounts of jobs and wealth.”

Ukraine, too, stands to benefit significantly. Trump noted that rebuilding efforts could transform Ukraine into a key player in global trade.

He positioned both nations as potential economic partners in a post-war recovery driven by commerce and cooperation.

World Leaders Briefed, Vatican Offers to Host Negotiations

President Trump confirmed that he informed key global leaders of the breakthrough, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Other leaders briefed include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Additionally, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finnish President Alexander Stubb received updates.

Trump also revealed that the Vatican, through the Pope, expressed strong interest in hosting the peace negotiations.

“Let the process begin!” Trump declared, signaling the start of what he hopes will be a historic path toward peace.
