The proposed meeting could take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for November in Shenzhen, China.
Trump has expressed willingness to participate, saying he would attend if Xi were also prepared to join. According to Trump, the three leaders could discuss nuclear arms reduction and disarmament, along with trade and other issues.
However, Russian officials have clarified that no final date, agenda or formal agreement has been reached. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the possibility of a meeting involving Putin, Trump and Xi had been discussed, but said details remained unsettled.
The war in Ukraine could also feature in the proposed discussions. Reports suggest Putin’s proposal may include talks on ending the conflict, while Trump has indicated that negotiations on nuclear weapons and disarmament among the three major powers could be a priority.
If held, the meeting would mark the first formal trilateral summit involving the leaders of the United States, Russia and China. It could provide a platform for discussions on global security, the war in Ukraine and the future of nuclear arms control.
