LAHORE: Sections of the M5 and M1 motorways have been closed for all types of traffic due to extremely dense fog, Motorway Police officials said on Tuesday.

According to the spokesperson, the M5 Motorway from Multan’s Shershah Interchange to Zahir Pir has been shut down. Similarly, the M1 Motorway from Peshawar to Rashakai has also been closed, while the stretch from Rashakai to Burhan has been reopened after slight improvement in visibility.

Authorities confirmed that visibility has now improved enough to reopen M1 from Peshawar to Islamabad, allowing traffic to move normally.

Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said the closures were made to protect the lives and property of citizens. Fog continues to affect visibility along the National Highway, particularly in Basti Malook, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur.

The Motorway Police have warned drivers that lane violations during fog can lead to severe accidents. Travelers have been advised to drive during daytime hours, as safe travel timings in foggy conditions are from 10 AM to 6 PM.
