Addressing the House of Commons, Miliband said Israel’s actions in the West Bank amounted to genocide and accused Israeli forces of committing grave human rights violations in Gaza.
He said around 70,000 people had been killed in Gaza, including 20,000 children, while hospitals had been targeted and about 60% of homes destroyed.
The British foreign secretary said there was evidence indicating war crimes had been committed in Gaza, alleging that civilians had been deliberately targeted and that international law and human rights had been violated.
Miliband said Britain had already suspended 30 arms export licences linked to Israel. He also claimed that 1,200 Palestinians had been killed despite the ceasefire.
He said Britain supported the decisions of the International Court of Justice concerning Gaza and would continue providing assistance to the territory. Palestinian students from Gaza would also be welcomed in Britain, he added.
Miliband said Britain would continue raising the Gaza crisis at the United Nations and would use its influence internationally to oppose serious human rights violations and injustice.
He further said those responsible for atrocities in Gaza must be held accountable. Britain, he added, strongly supports a two-state solution and would provide full government backing for efforts to achieve it.
