UN body concerned over dangers of artificial intelligence
NEW YORK: The UN Committee on Information has expressed its concerns over the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in spreading disinformation in the world.
A resolution passed by the committee highlighted the global principles for information integrity in digital spaces.
The committee asked member states to promote media and digital literacy to advance sustainable development goals and mitigate the challenges of climate change and the phenomenon of hate speech and incitement to violence.
Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to UN Usman Jadoon on the occasion said the resolution acknowledges challenges that arise from the rapidly changing media landscape.
The United Nations had earlier also called on its member states to monitor AI and devise strategies to protect their interests from being compromised by any misuse of AI.
