UN Condemns Islamabad Suicide Attack, Demands Justice for Victims

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations has condemned in the strongest terms the suicide bombing in Islamabad, calling for those responsible for the “heinous act of terrorism” to be swiftly brought to justice.

In a statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

He also urged Pakistani authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the attack and ensure accountability for all perpetrators.

According to police, the explosion occurred near the G-11 district courts on Tuesday afternoon, when a motorcycle-borne suicide bomber detonated explosives close to a police vehicle.

The blast was so powerful that it was heard across the vicinity, setting several nearby cars ablaze. Officials said the attacker’s body parts were found scattered inside the courthouse premises.

At least 12 people lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries in the devastating attack, which caused widespread panic in the federal capital. Emergency teams and security personnel rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area and beginning rescue operations immediately.
