NEW YORK: The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly officially began on Monday, bringing together representatives from all 193 UN Member States, along with delegates from two Observer missions.

Delegates are set to take the floor during the general debate, while a series of high-level meetings across the UN campus will tackle some of the most urgent challenges facing the world today. The session offers a vital opportunity for countries to reflect, reaffirm commitments, and envision a shared path forward.

World leaders are expected to focus on critical issues such as climate change, peace and security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.

Observers suggest that the discussions could shape the trajectory of international cooperation over the coming year.

Annalena Baerbock, the newly elected President of the General Assembly, will preside over the debate. This year’s theme is: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
