NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) condemned the recent Israeli strikes on Doha, carried out on 9 September. Council members expressed deep regret over the civilian casualties and stressed the urgent need to prevent further escalation.
Support for Qatar’s Sovereignty and Stability
Council members reaffirmed their solidarity with Qatar and emphasized the importance of de-escalation. They underscored their strong support for Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in full alignment with the principles of the UN Charter.
Recognition of Qatar’s Mediation Role
The UNSC highlighted Qatar’s vital role in regional mediation. Members recalled Doha’s consistent efforts to advance diplomacy in coordination with Egypt and the United States. They stressed that Qatar remains a key mediator in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.
Call to End Gaza Suffering
Council members also urged the immediate release of hostages, including those killed by Hamas. They stressed that ending the war and alleviating the suffering in Gaza must remain a top global priority.
Reiterating the importance of ongoing diplomatic initiatives, members called on all parties to support mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. They urged stakeholders to seize the current opportunity to advance peace in the region.
