NEW YORK: The United Nations has called for a one-week pause to Gaza war in order to enable heath teams to conduct a campaign for administering polio drops to children in the war-devastated territory.
According to the world body, over 6400,000 children in Gaza are in an immediate need of polio drops to save them from the crippling disease. It may be mentioned here that since October last year, Israel has continued war on Gaza, destroying healthcare and other infrastructure and displacing the local people.
The Israeli forces have also killed about 40,000 people, 32 percent of them being children and women, in the Gaza strip.
The United Nations and the World Health Organisation say that over sux million children less than five years of age are at the constant threat of contracting the disease of polio as they could not be administered drops due to the war continuing since October last year.
According to media reports, due to lack of healthcare system and unavailability of essential medicines, different diseases have broken out in the war-hit Gaza strip and many children have died of different preventable diseases so far.
Resolutions passed by United Nations Security Council and direction passed by the International Court of Justice have already been disregarded by the Zionist state which has continued killing innocent people in the Gaza strip since October 2023.
So it is very unlikely that the Zionist state would accept the humanitarian call from the United Nations and stop the war to help the WHO carry out a campaign to administer polio drops to the children of Gaza.
