UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has reiterated that lasting peace and the protection of human rights cannot be achieved without resolving situations of foreign occupation and ensuring the right to self-determination for oppressed peoples.
Speaking during the presentation of the Report of the Human Rights Council in the UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, cited Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir as examples where populations continue to suffer oppression and dispossession.
He called on the Human Rights Council to proactively use its prevention mandate to uphold international law and safeguard the rights of all occupied and oppressed peoples without discrimination.
