Undocumented Afghan students will not be given admission: minister
Says currently there are around 4,500 Afghan students enrolled across Pakistan.
HYDERABAD: While the deportation of the Afghan nationals living in Pakistan without legal documents continues, thousands of Afghan students are studying in educational institutions of Pakistan.
On Monday, Minister for Federal Education Madad Ali Sindhi said that 4,500 legal Afghani students are being provided admission in different public universities of the country.
He however added that from now on undocumented Afghan children would not be given admission in any school, college or university in Pakistan.
The minister was talking to media at a certificate distribution ceremony at the Sindh Museum in Hyderabad.
When told that many schools were without textbooks for students, he said an inquiry will be initiated into it.
In the wake of the deportation of the Afghan nationals, the government at the federal level has continued providing scholarships to Afghan students.
Recently, the federal government launched the third phase of the HEC scholarship program and granted scholarships to around 300 students in Islamabad.
However, concerns are being raised over the future of thousands of students who gave been repatriated to Afghanistan where the Taliban regime has already restricted education for girls.
