United Health Care CEO shot dead in New York

Police say that initial investigation indicated it to be a targeted murder.

NEW YORK: The chief executive officer of United Health Care was fired upon by a lone gunman here on Wednesday, police authorities said.

They said a masked gunman opened fire on the CEO at Midtown Manhattan and escaped. The injured was shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced his death.

The deceased was later identified as Brian Thompson, 50. He was attacked at Street No 54 near a hotel between 6th and 7th Avenues.

The police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace and arrested the murderer. 

The initial investigation of the police showed that it was a targeted murder, however, further probe was underway.

They said Thompson joined the United Health Care in 2004 and became its CEO in the year 2021.

On Wednesday morning, Health Group had organized a conference but it was postponed after the killing of Thompson.
