University organizes festival to showcase KP’s culture
Paintings, calligraphy, craft and sculptures prepared by GIKI students displayed at exhibition.
PESHAWAR: A three-day art and fashion festival concluded at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Swabi on Wednesday.
Organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority and GIKI, the event was attended by faculty members, students and a large number of visitors. The event titled ‘Irtiqa’ (art revolution) was aimed at presenting the culture of the province to the outside world through calligraphy, art and paintings while providing a proper platform to the young artists to display their artwork and get recognized.
Over 100 art pieces of different categories, including paintings, calligraphy, craft and sculptures, prepared by students were displayed at the exhibition.
The students also participated in various events, including theatre dramas, art exhibitions, painting competitions, landscape painting, calligraphy, fashion show and a lot of more. Theatre dramas themed on different topics and cultures were well received. The students played different characters in the dramas and received thunderous applause from the audience.
A fashion show and cultural paintings on T-shirts competitions were other features of the gala. Models attired in different cultural and traditional dresses displayed a catwalk on the ramp.
The students said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had a distinctive rich history, which should be showcased through organizing such events. The participants said that it was an exuberant and gleeful event, which celebrated art in different spectrums. They said it was the best opportunity for them to interact with each other and learn about the culture, traditions, scenic places and other aspects of life of the people and the province.
