Responding to reports suggesting that Beijing and Moscow were helping Tehran, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that any assistance being provided, if at all, was likely to be limited.
“If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t think they are at all,” Trump wrote.
The US president added that Russia and China had a great deal to lose and said Washington would find out quickly if either country was assisting Iran.
Trump’s remarks follow his earlier statements in July regarding assurances he said he had received from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Trump, Xi told him during a meeting in May that China would not sell weapons to Iran under any circumstances. Trump also said Putin had assured him that Russia would not sell weapons to Tehran.
The comments come amid continuing scrutiny of Iran’s international relationships and questions about whether major powers are providing it with military support.
