WASHINGTON: The US State Department said Iran’s decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is “unacceptable” and urged Tehran to adhere to its commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In a media briefing, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce called on Iran to resume cooperation with the IAEA without delay, grant the agency access to its limited uranium enrichment facilities, and provide information about any undeclared nuclear material.

She also stressed that Iran must answer the IAEA’s longstanding questions.

Commenting on regional tensions, Bruce noted there has been a dramatic shift in the Middle East in recent months. She added that President Trump has made it clear the situation in Gaza will further deteriorate if a ceasefire is not reached.
