Man sentenced in Capitol Hill riot case

Convict will be kept in probation for three years after completion of jail term, says prosecution.

WASHINGTON: A court in the US capital city of Washington DC has sentenced a man along with in the Capitol Hill riot case.

According to the US media reports, the court sentenced Michael Sparks to over four years in prison and fined him 2000 US dollars. The prosecution said that after the completion of the prison sentence the convict would be kept under probation for three more years.

In March this year, the jury had found Michael Sparks guilty of the allegations to attack the Capitol Hill.

The Capital Hill attack occured on January 6, 2021. After the last presidential elections, the supporters of Donald Trump, who lost to Joe Biden, stormed the Capitol Hill. They were later charged with trying to breaking the tradition of transferring power after election peacefully. Michael Sparks and his accomplices were seen in a video viral on social media telling people that they had entered the building.
