US delegation due in Islamabad for counterterrorism talks

ISLAMABAD: Senior officials from the U.S. State Department will visit Pakistan next week to discuss bilateral cooperation, especially related to counterterrorism, it has been learnt.

According to sources, the delegation will be led by Erich Meier, Senior Official for South and Central Asian Affairs.

The delegation, comprising officials from various U.S. agencies, is expected to visit Islamabad from April 8 to 10.

Sources added that discussions during the visit will also include enhancing U.S.-Pakistan cooperation on counterterrorism.

It may be mentioned here that recently Pakistan arrested and extradited a terrorist involved in killing US servicemen in an attack near Kabul airport in 2021. 

The announcement about the arrest and handing over of the terrorist was made by President Donald Trump. The US president also thanked Pakistan for the move.
