ISLAMABAD: The United States has come to better understand Iran’s logic and core principles following recent negotiations in Islamabad, according to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and head of the negotiating team.

He shared these remarks in a message posted on social media shortly after the conclusion of the talks.

The Iranian delegation has released its first official statement following high-level negotiations with the United States held in Islamabad, offering a measured and cautious assessment of the outcome of the talks.

Ghalibaf also extended appreciation to Pakistan for its constructive role in facilitating and streamlining the negotiation process, acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts in creating an environment conducive to dialogue between the two sides.

He emphasized that prior to the talks, Iran had entered the negotiations with sincerity, seriousness, and a clear sense of purpose, but noted that experiences from past conflicts have made Iran cautious about placing trust in the opposing side.

He further explained that while the Iranian delegation adopted a forward-looking and constructive approach during the negotiations, including taking steps related to future engagement, the opposing side ultimately failed to secure Iran’s full confidence at this stage.

Nevertheless, he maintained that the United States now has a clearer understanding of Iran’s principled stance, and it is up to Washington to determine whether it can take practical steps to build trust with Tehran.

The Iranian parliamentary speaker reiterated that, alongside maintaining military preparedness, diplomacy remains a vital and strategic tool for protecting the rights and interests of the Iranian nation.

He highlighted Iran’s population of approximately 90 million and expressed gratitude to citizens who have demonstrated unity, resilience, and readiness under the guidance of the country’s supreme leadership.
