US seeks reply from India over plot to kill Sikh leader

WASHINGTON: The United States of America has sought reply from India to the allegations that its agents plotted to murder a Sikh separatist leaders in the US last year.

A senior US official confirmed that Washington has sought reply from New Delhi over India’s conspiracy to murder a Sikh separatist leader on US soil.

The official said that the Indian government had been asked to give proper reply to the allegations of plot to kill the Sikh leader living in the US.

The US last year stated that it had foiled an attempt by India to assassinate the Sikh separatist leader living in the US and warned New Delhi against it.

US President Joe Biden cancelled his planned visit to India to attend the country’s republic day on January 26 after New Delhi’s plot to kill a separatist Sikh leader was exposed by US security agencies.

Earlier last year, relations between India and Canada nosedived after the canadian prime minister accused New Delhi of orchastrating the killing of another Sikh leader in Canada in June.

The Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is associated with the Sikh for Justice organization, working for the separate homeland for Sikh in India called Khalistan.

The Indian government has already declared Pannun as a wanted terrorist.
