US warns countries against retaliatory tarrif increases

WASHINGTON: US Treasury Secretary Scott Basinet has said that countries should refrain from retaliatory actions against the imposition of tariffs by the Trump administration.

“My advice to every country is not to engage in countermeasures because retaliatory actions against US tariffs will increase tensions,” he remarked, according to media reports.

It should be noted that US President Trump has announced retaliatory tariffs on various countries around the world, including Pakistan, which has sparked reactions from multiple countries.

Canada has announced countermeasures in response to US tariffs, while China has demanded the US withdraw the new tariffs.

On this issue, former Pakistani Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi said that Pakistani products had always been taxed in the US, and further increases in tariffs will make Pakistani goods more expensive in the American market.
