ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has decided to issue free online visas to visitors from 126 countries.
Under the online visa issuance system, tourists and business visitors from the 126 countries would get the visa of Pakistan free of cost within 24 hours.
The approval to the online visa issuance system was given by the cabinet at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Wednesday. Moreover, the cabinet also approved on-arrival grant of visas to Sikh yatrees.
Prime Minister Sharif told the meeting that the government was making all possible efforts to ensure ease of doing business and making investment in the country. In this regard, the interior and foreign ministries and departments concerned have taken a major step to issue online visas to foreigners.
He said visitors from the 126 countries coming to Pakistan for sightseeing and business would be issued online visas without any fee.
He also said that e-gates were being set up in nine airports across the country including at the Gwadar airport to facilitate the visitors arriving on electronic visas.
The prime minister was of the view that these steps would help drawing more business persons and tourists from abroad. The steps would also promote religious tourism in the country, he added.
