ISLAMABAD: PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub on Monday held a presser along with party Chairman Gohar Ali Khan and other leaders and condemned arrest of spokesman Rauf Hassan earlier in the day.
He also responded to the ISPR chief’s press conference in which he had said that the government had introduced one document regime passport for the Pakistan-Afghan border crossing but a protest was launched against it only because the protesters wanted a free hand for smuggling across the border, he added.
Mr Ayub said that petrol worth 550 billion dollars was being smuggled into Pakistan from Iran without any check. Who is sitting in the borers of Pakistan as well as its provinces through which diesel, cigarettes and other items were also being smuggled. Who are sitting there; are borders being manned by Patwaris, he asked.
The PTI leaders condemned the police raid at party’s media office in Islamabad and the arrest of spokesman Rauf Hassan and said the action was aimed at changing the loyalties of the PTI lawmakers.
They have a problem with the verdict of the Supreme Court in which the court ordered that reserved seats for minorities and women should be given to the PTI in proportionate to the general seats the party had won in the Feb 8th elections.
The PTI leaders said that the raid was conducted to weaken the party. They said a legal battle would be fought in all available forums for the release of party spokesman Rauf Hassan.
