Widespread damages, road blockades after floods

11 family members killed after floodwater entered their house and buried them in the basement.

PESHAWAR: Monsoon rains have wrecked havoc in different parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa with roads blocked and power supply suspended in different cities.

In hilly areas of the province such as Swat, Shangla, Dir, Khohistan and Chitral, flash floods have washed away houses and damaged standing crops and orchard trees. Moreover, roads in these areas are blocked after flash floods.

In Kohat, rainwater entered a house causing death of 11 people who were sleeping in the basement of the house. Rescue 1122 retrieved the bodies and shifted them to hospital. The deceased belonged to the same family and included six children.

The flash floods and GLOFs are reported to have been caused by hot weather followed by heavy downpours which started last night and continued with intervals on Tuesday.

In many areas, emergency has been declared and administration and police put in alert as more rains were forecast.
