AZERBAIJAN: Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has said the international community should work towards ensuring peace by promoting respect for cultural and civilizational diversity in the world.
Mr Jilani was speaking at the 27th ECO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Azerbaijan.
He was of the view that the world cannot afford more wars and conflicts should be avoided for larger interest of humanity.
“Pakistan not only provides avenues for regular interaction, close cooperation and strengthening of ties in the region but also remains committed to pursue the initiatives envisaged by the Organization in future,” he remarked.
He also stressed the need for increasing regional trade, strengthening connectivity and promoting tourism in line with ‘ECO Vision 2025’.
All ECO members should prioritize the early operationalization of ECO Preferential Trade Agreement so that the people of the region can benefit from the trade linkages. Mr Jilani also highlighted the need to develop a time-bound and robust mechanism to tackle environmental issues besides timely transition to green economy for a safe environment and future.
He added that Pakistan looks forward to working closely with other ECO member states towards peace and stability in Afghanistan.
