GILGIT: Justice (retd.) Yar Muhammad has been appointed as the caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, according to a notification issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Council Secretariat.
The notification states that the appointment was made by the Chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council after holding consultations. The caretaker Chief Minister will take oath before assuming office.
According to the notification, the nomination has been made under Article 48-A(2). It further adds that the decision to appoint the caretaker Chief Minister was finalized in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition and the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs.
The appointment comes as the region transitions into an interim setup following the dissolution of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
