Year’s first nationwide polio drive gets underway
Millions of children under five years of age will be administered polio drops, say officials.
ISLAMABAD: The year 2024’s first anti-polio campaign got under way across Pakistan today (Monday) in which millions of children under five years of age will be administered drops, health officials here said.
in this regard, teams have been formed to visit home to home and station at different points to give polio drops to the children. The drive will continue in varying duration continuing for five to seven days.
The officials said over seven point four million children will be administered polio drops in KP, twenty three million children in Punjab, 10.03 million children in Sindh and more than 2.5 million children in Balochistan. In Gilgit-Baltistan, over two hundred fifty thousand children will be vaccinated.
Police in the provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan have provided personnel to the health departments who would be deployed for security of the polio teams.
The security of the polio teams has been tightened in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and Balochistan provinces where polio teams frequently came under attack in the past.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world where polio has still not been eradicated.
