ISLAMABAD: A young man was shot dead during a musical night organized to celebrate the arrival of the New Year at Shakarparian, a popular recreational spot in the federal capital on Sunday night.

A police constable was also injured in the incident.

According to police, the assailants opened fire during the event, killing a young man identified as Samiullah on the spot. The firing caused panic among attendees, spreading fear and chaos at the venue.

A case has been registered at Aabpara Police Station on the complaint of the deceased’s cousin, Imranullah. In the FIR, four individuals — Sadr Islam, Ishaq, Rizwan, and Sawar Khan — have been nominated as suspects.

The complainant stated that Samiullah had visited Shakarparian with his friends for recreational purposes when the accused allegedly targeted him during the musical night and fired multiple shots. The FIR claimed that after the shooting, the deceased was also subjected to severe physical assault.

During the incident, a police constable identified as Ghulam Hasnain, who was deployed at the venue, was hit by a bullet. He was immediately shifted to a hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable and out of danger.

Initial findings suggest the incident may be a case of targeted killing, although investigations are ongoing from all angles.
