Zardari meets Fazal as govt calls joint session of parliament

President and JUI chief discuss amendment to laws soon.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday met Jamiat Ulama-i-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the latter’s residence in Islamabad.

The meeting is being seen in the context of the government’s plan to amend some laws or introduce new legislation as the joint session of the parliament has been called on Aug 28. Moreover, the National Assembly is also meeting on Aug 26. 

The president and the JUI chief discussed the overall situation, including political, in the country after Zardari reached the house of the maulana. He also presented him a gun as a gift.

During the meeting, Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Naqvi and JUI-F leadership were also present, according to the Press Wing of the President House.

Maulana Fazal has been a strong critics of the government since the Feb 8 elections as he has been alleging wide-spread rigging in the polls.

It has been learnt that the government was planning to bring some new laws or amendments to make it impossible for the allocation of reserved seats to the PTI after the recent Supreme Court direction in favor of the party.
