ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said that the new administration of President Donald Trump has halted the US aid program for 90 days for review.
At a weekly briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said the US suspended the aid for all countries for 90 days. It is expected that these assistance programmes will be resumed soon.
He said the Foreign Ministry was not handling the visit of the US delegation to Pakistan, which was part of the routine visits of investors and the business community.
It may be mentioned here that the United States had temporarily suspended almost all foreign aid programs, as a result of which many US-funded projects in Pakistan were also stopped.
In reply to a question, he said that an investigation into the boat accident in Morocco was underway and the 22 Pakistani survivors were being questioned.
Khan said that the process of identifying the remaining bodies was complicated, adding the Moroccan government was helping in the identification process. As many as 44 illegal Pakistani immigrants died in the boat tragedy.
