Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Division Syed Fida Hassan Shah said the blast was a suicide attack. He stated that the attacker attempted to enter the Kabal police station compound but was stopped by police personnel at the main gate, where the explosion occurred.
The police compound houses the Kabal police station, police lines, a facilitation center and other offices. The blast took place while a peace rally was being held at Kabal Chowk.
Several police officials and civilians were among those injured. The injured were shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital, where an emergency was declared. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, while further details are awaited.
