US Cancels Over 175,000 Visas Amid Immigration Crackdown

US Tightens Visa Screening as New Rules Raise Risks for Temporary Visa Applicants

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has cancelled more than 175,000 US visas as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, according to figures released by the US State Department.

US officials said visa cancellations have been linked to a range of criminal offences, including assault, theft, drug-related offences, driving under the influence, sexual crimes, fraud and child abuse.

The State Department said action had also been taken against individuals accused of abusing the US immigration system or posing a potential national security threat.

Officials said the visa review and cancellation process would continue under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as part of the administration’s broader immigration enforcement policy.
