ISLAMABAD: Senior Supreme Court judge Justice Munib Akhtar has taken oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Supreme Court confirmed on Monday.
According to the court statement, the oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in Karachi in a simple yet formal event. Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui administered the oath to Justice Munib Akhtar.
Justice Munib Akhtar will perform the duties of Acting Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan during the period when Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is abroad.
The ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court and the Federal Constitutional Court, along with senior court officials and staff. The Registrar of the Supreme Court conducted the proceedings.
Officials said the appointment is temporary and will remain in effect until the return of the Chief Justice, ensuring continuity in judicial functions at the country’s top court.
