ISLAMABAD: An American free lance journalist has married a Chitrali poet and polo player belonging to Booni in Upper Chitral.

Claire Stephens and Anwar Wali Khan aka Mushur, who is also the chairman of the Booni village council, tied the knot at a function held at the residence of former MPA Ghulam Muhammad in Islamabad on Thursday.

The newlywed couple will reach Booni on Friday where his family and people from across the area will welcome them.

Stephens first visited Pakistan in late 2022 during which she traveled throughout the country from Karachi up to the north. She mentioned the people of the mountains to be very welcoming and caring.

She stayed in Booni for a couple of months where she liked the Khow culture and described it as one of the richest. She went back to her home country at the end of 2023 and returned two days ago to get married with Khan after taking consent from her family.

It was very surprising for the attendees at the function when Claire decided her Haq Meher to be only 30,000 Pakistani rupees.

Claire and Anwar are building a library-cum-community center in Booni which will be equipped with latest technology and diverse range of books.

Construction of the structure is already complete and the facility expected to be inaugurated soon.
