GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate was sworn in as the new chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday.
Governor Syed Mehdi Shah administered the oath at a ceremony attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Federal Minister Amir Muqam and other political leaders.
Addressing the ceremony, Amjad Hussain said the PPP had emerged as the largest political party in the June 7, 2026 elections, crediting young voters and women for the party’s success. He thanked the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for placing their trust in the PPP despite the party not being in power at the federal level.
The newly sworn-in chief minister also thanked the party leadership for its confidence in him and expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership for facilitating the formation of the government.
He pledged to introduce reforms across all sectors, improve road and air connectivity to boost tourism and development, and work towards transforming Gilgit-Baltistan into a model province while meeting the expectations of its people.
