LONDON: Another British national of Pakistani origin has become member of House of Lords.
Shafaq Mohammed, who became a Lord on the nomination of the Liberal Democrats, said that his father was a labourer, and his journey to reach the House of Lords was long and laborious.
He said that he remained as a council group leader in Sheffield for 20 years and also served in the European Parliament. However, he said he never thought of becoming a lord.
Lord Shafaq Mohammad said that he opened his eyes in a mud house in Chakswari area in Pakistan. There was no water and electricity in the house, he said, adding that his mother used to fill water from a well.
“Britain is a land of opportunity. I’m a living example of that. My message to young people is that no matter where they come from they can get a place through their hard work.”
