BARCELONA: Cristina Vallejo has been elected as the new Dean of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) in the recent elections, becoming the third woman in the institution’s history to hold this prestigious position.
Vallejo secured victory with 3,446 votes, and her entire team also achieved significant success.
More than 24,100 registered lawyers were invited to vote in this election, out of which 3,855 exercised their right, resulting in a turnout of approximately 16%.
The newly-elected governing body includes Jorge Navarro as Vice Dean, Carles GarcĂa Roqueta as Secretary, along with 13 other members.
Pakistani-origin lawyers based in Barcelona also took active part in the election process. Currently, there are seven registered Pakistani lawyers in the Barcelona Bar who are not only providing legal services but are also playing an active role in representing the community.
These lawyers include Faheem Zia, Hasnat Mustafa, Sharjeel Tariq Chaudhry, Wasif Muhammad Zaman, Namdar Iqbal, Adnan Bashir Raja, and Zahra Bakhtawar, all of whom cast their votes.
Community members are hopeful that more Pakistani lawyers will register with the Barcelona Bar Council in the future, which will strengthen their presence in the legal field and help amplify their voice more effectively.
The newly elected team is expected to formally take charge of their positions within the next two weeks.
