LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has declared a civil suit filed over a citizenship dispute as non-maintainable and accepted the petition of NADRA.
The court set aside the decisions of lower courts regarding the issuance of identity cards, ruling that matters related to suspected citizenship can only be heard by NADRA and federal government forums.
According to the judgment, it has been made mandatory to first approach the NADRA Verification Board in cases involving citizenship disputes.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the verdict on NADRA’s petition. The 14-page judgment has been declared a judicial precedent, and the High Court has also issued important guidelines for the lower judiciary.
