TEHRAN: Over 50 workers were killed and several others injured in an explosion in a coalmine in Iran, according to international media reports.
The report said that the coalmine explosion happened in Tabas district of Khurasan, about 540 km from the capital city of Tehran.
The blast was caused by methane gas accumulation in two blocks of the coalmine at about 9pm local time on Saturday. So far, 50 workers have been confirmed dead and scores of others injured.
At the time of the explosion, there were 69 workers in the colamin and so far there is no information about the remaining miners.
