Commission to probe armed attack on Bannu peace rally

KP govt spokesman says matter is highly sensitive and public should remain careful.

PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakthunkhwa has announced that it would form a commission to probe the incident in Bannu on Friday where a peace rally was fired upon.

Four people were killed and scores of others injured when unknown persons opened indiscriminate fire on the rally attended by thousands of people to condemn the current wave of terrorism in the region.

A spokesman for the KP government, Barrister Saif said that the findings of the investigation by the commission would be made public and those responsible for opening fire on the rally would be punished.

He said that security always remains on high alert in areas hit by suicide and terror attacks. Terrorists earlier had attacked the Bannu cantonment and killed eight security personnel.

The government blamed terrorists hiding in Afghanistan for carrying out the attacks. However, despite a series of terror attacks on security forces, the government has failed to take action and ensure peace by checking infiltration of terrorists from the neighbouring country.

Meanwhile, according to reports, a protest sit-in was staged in Bannu to condemn the armed attack in the peace rally and demanding the government should trace those responsible.
