LAHORE: Investigators have confirmed a DNA match for the suspects accused of abducting and sexually assaulting two foreign women in Lahore’s Defence area, marking a significant development in the high-profile case.
According to investigation sources, the DNA report has been made part of the case file. Sources said a suspect identified as Nawaz allegedly assaulted one of the victims first before the other suspects also participated in the crime. Further investigation is underway.
Separately, police have also registered a case related to a traffic accident involving the suspects’ vehicle before the victims managed to escape. The case was lodged at South Cantt Police Station on the complaint of a citizen, Usman, who claimed his vehicle sustained damage worth Rs300,000 in the collision near Lahore Airport on July 1.
Earlier, Lahore DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said police were treating all suspects equally, including one allegedly linked to a senior government minister. He added that the investigation is being conducted by Lahore Police’s specialised rape cell, while the Crime Control Department is not handling the case.
