EU Introduces New Migration and Asylum Rules

ISLAMABAD: European countries are set to implement a new migration and asylum agreement starting June 2026, aiming to make border control and asylum processing faster, stricter and more efficient, said the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment.

Under the new framework, enhanced screening procedures will become mandatory at all entry points, while asylum applications are expected to be processed more quickly than before. The reforms are designed to improve identification of irregular migrants and accelerate decision-making.

A key component of the agreement includes increasing deportation rates for non-EU nationals residing illegally in member states. A revised return mechanism and a unified EU list of “safe countries” will be introduced to streamline removals.

Officials say that individuals who do not follow legal immigration pathways may face expedited return procedures under the new system.

The changes are part of broader efforts to manage migration flows more effectively across Europe and ensure stronger coordination among EU member states.
