Alvi leaves; election for new president today

Election for 14th president will be held on Saturday (today) and Asif Ali Zardari and Mehmood Khan Achakzai are candidates.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday was presented a farewell guard of honor at the Aiwane Sadr, marking the culmination of his term.

Contingents of armed forces presented the guard of honor which was reviewed by the outgoing president. The farewell guard of honour was given a day before the next presidential election scheduled to be held on Saturday. Dr. Arif Alvi was sworn in as the 13th President of Pakistan on September 9, 2018.

Election for new president

Meanwhile, election for the 14th president will be held on Saturday (today) and former president Asif Ali Zardari nominated by PPP and allied parties and Mehmood Khan Achakzai of the Sunni Ittehad Council are the candidates.

Members of the Senate, National Assembly and four provincial assemblies will elect the president. Polling will start at 10am and and end at 4pm. The chief election commissioner will be the returning officer.
