KARACHI: A major financial irregularity has surfaced in the Karachi Mobility Project, with authorities registering a case over alleged corruption in the Yellow Line BRT initiative.
According to officials, an FIR has been lodged at Anti-Corruption South against former Project Director of KMP, Zameer Abbasi, and Director Procurement, Jhumman Das, along with other officials.
The case involves allegations of financial mismanagement in the Jam Sadiq Bridge and two depot-related projects under the BRT system. An inquiry committee has already confirmed instances of administrative negligence and financial irregularities.
The FIR states that contractors were allegedly provided unsecured financial facilitation, including approximately Rs 8.5 billion in payments without bank guarantees. This resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 1.25 billion to the national exchequer.
Authorities have further alleged corruption, fraud, and misuse of authority in the execution of the project. Investigations are currently underway following the registration of the case.
