RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has strongly condemned Iran’s recent attacks on five Gulf countries, describing them as a serious violation of international law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, GCC Secretary General Jassim Al-Budaiwi denounced the attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, as well as commercial shipping in the Gulf.
Al-Budaiwi said the attacks violate international law, the United Nations Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. He added that the incidents undermine maritime security and threaten the freedom of navigation in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.
The GCC chief reaffirmed the council’s support for the affected countries and backed the measures they have taken to protect their sovereignty, national security, and the safety of their citizens and residents.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following the reported Iranian attacks and growing international concern over security in the Gulf.
